With the demise of Ustad Chand Khan Sahib in 1980 and other senior members (rather in quick succession) the responsibility fell on Khalifa Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, who has been running the society with full dedication ever since. Honouring eminent artists with “Ustad Chand Khan Award” is his brainchild.

Since 1986, the society has been honouring renowned artists with Ustad Chand Khan Award for their outstanding contribution in the Art and Culture. Pt. Dilip Chandra Vedi, Ustad Nisar Hussain Khan, Smt Sumati Mutatkar, Pt. Siyaram Tiwari, Ustad Asad Ali Khan, Pt. Debu Chaudhri, Pt. L.K. Pandit, Ustad Sabri Khan, Ustad Fayyaz Khan, Pt. Jitendra Pratap, Pt. Sunil Mukherjee, Pt. Arvind Parekh, Maharaj Krishan Kumar, Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar, Pt. Buddhadev Das Gupta, Dr. Shankar Lal Mishra, Guru Hare Krishna Behra, Dr. Kiran Seth (SPICMACAY), Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, Shri Gajendra Narayan Singh, Smt. Shobha Deepak Singh, Kumari Uma Sharma, Pt. Abhay Narayan Mallick, Smt Shanno Khurana & Pt. Bhajan Sopori are some of the renowned recipients of this honor..

Now, Sursagar Society has also instituted “Sangeet Martand Ustad Chand Khan Lifetime Achievement Award”. So far the award has been conferred on towering personalities: Ustad Abdul Haleem Jaffer Khan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt and Shyam Benegal.

This year we are bestowing this prestigious award on Padmashri Hansraj Hans for his immense contributions to Sufi Music.
